Conservation Conversations - Spring 2012

Education

Every year, the Scioto SWCD is involved in several educational activities with the county schools. District staff visits schools throughout the year and makes presentations about soil, water, weather, pollution, and numerous other topics that teachers request. Some schools rely on the assistance, expertise, and tools that the soil and water conservation district offers them. In addition, the district has sponsored events and has also been involved in field days sponsored by other agencies. Educating young people, as well as adults, is a vital part of the district's activities.

All nine Scioto County School Districts, Portsmouth City Schools, Notre Dame Schools, and Shawnee State University have benefited from the district's education programs. Since hiring an education coordinator in 1995, the district has been able to devote more time to meeting the conservation education needs of schools in the county.
