Scioto County to host Area 5 Envirothon
The Envirothon is a competitive, academic event for high school students. The Envirothon promotes greater awareness of natural resources and environmental issues, and heighten understanding of the interrelationships between living and non-living components of the environment. Schools are permitted to send two teams of three to five members to the contest, however; teams with fewer than five members are not eligible to advance to the state contest. Click here for a list of Envirothon rules and regulations. In 2007, Portsmouth High School represented Scioto County at the competition at Clear Creek Metro Park, sending two teams to compete. Students or teachers interested in participating in the event should contact the soil and water conservation district office at 259-9231. To be eligible to participate in the Envirothon, students must be enrolled in grades 9 through 12. All teams must be accompanied by an adult. Students will receive materials to prepare for the competition after registering. Teams must be registered by March. The Envirothon is an enjoyable experience that allows students to learn more about the environment while giving them an opportunity to apply their knowledge with hands-on activities. You are encouraged to participate. If you have any questions, contact the Scioto SWCD at 259-9231. For more information about the Envirothon competition, Click Here. Ohio Envirothon Website |
