(Juniperus virginiana)  Actually a type of Juniper, this medium growing species makes an excellent windbreak while its aromatic heartwood is prized for making cedar chest, closet wood lining, cedar shavings, small carvings, pencils, and no-rotting fence post.  Reaching a mature height of 30 ft. and spred of 15 ft., it tolerates just about any type of soil and does well in full sun to partial sun conditions.  Easter Red Cedar should not be planted near apple trees due to cedar-apple rust.
